Postcard of the St. Joe River as it flows into the Chatcolet near St. Maries, Idaho. | The shadowy St. Joe River flows through Lake Chatcolet here below St. Maries, Idaho, (just beyond hills). This famous river is not only popular for water sports and recreation, but also provides an inexpensive means of transporting timber. This braille of logs is approx. 1,600' long and contains 1 1/2 million bd. ft. They are combined into even larger "lake tows" and towed to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, mills over 30 miles to the north.
