Postcard of the Coeur Mine in the Coeur d'Alene mining district near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. | It took a dozen years of underground exploration, 7 miles of crosscuts and drifts, 10 miles of diamond drilling, and a $10 million mill to put this mine into production. It is expected to produce 2.2 million ounces of silver and 1.6 million pounds of copper annually. Located in Shields Gulch near Osburn, in the heart of Idaho's historic Silver Belt, it will rank behind Sunshine, Galena, and Lucky Friday Mines (in that order) as the country's top silver producers.
