Dear Father Mother

I take in to write a fue lines to let you now that I am well & harty & I hope you are all in goying the good helth I heve ben on a very long March & heve Stood it first Rate We heve marched a bout five hundred Miles we marched through South Crlina & we Swept things as we went hed plenty to eat & Generl Shurmon burnt every thing as we went through. & lade every thing to the Commans Collumba the Capatal of South carlina we burnt it. We heve ben on the march 2. Monts we are Ragged & lousey We look & ack like a lot of engies we are in Camp now in goldsboro & we will here about a month & drow Some Cloes and Rashions We heve not hed much fiting the army gest be fore we got to goldsboro Generl Shermon fit hard one half day be fore they drove them back we was Rite in Site of the fite our Men throud up brest works & we Remaned in them 2 days put up our tents but we did not have Much to eat 2 day or 3 day but pop Corn & meat. the Rebels are a bout plade out I think. We Shant Stay here long then we are going to Richmond Verginia. General Grant is thare & Shirmon is going to help him, the 20. Core 15th. Core 17. Core 14. Core they go through the State in 3 Collams eat up & disstroy every thing & burn bildins fences to Fayetteville we tore down Some large brick bildins & Some of the way tore up Railrode. Generl Shirmon Says this war will end in fore four Monts from now. I hope Sooner.

Father you may Shere have the wool of the Sheep & give me the increase. for I May haft to Stay My time out. if the war Shoud last. You must Rite as Soon as you get this & write oft of the & how you are a git ing a long & how things are. docter K King is here he is one of our doctters. wal I Shall to Stop writing & fix up my tent a little the wether is warm, the peach trees are in fool bloom Northcarlina and Southcarlina is low flat wet Swampy land. I thought that hom is wone of the pooerst placees in the world but I heve found out that our land is gest as good as eney in the South I heve made up my Mind to be Contented with My one home if I ever git home.
