Postcard of the Cataldo Mission church in Cataldo, Idaho. | Mission at Cataldo, Idaho, construction began in 1848 by Father Anthony Ravalli S.J. With broad axe, auger and pocket knife for tools, and a band of untutored Indians for help, the old mission has stood to become Gem State's oldest building. The mission was designated a "National Historic Landmark" by Congress in 1962.
