Postcard of Fort Vancouver as it would have looked in 1845. | Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Vancouver, Wa. 98661. Founded in 1825, Fort Vancouver was the headquarters and supply depot for the Hundon's Bay Company in the Northwest. For 20 years it was also the social, political, and economic center of the Northwest. Declining fur returns and problems with Americans led tot he closing of the fort in 1860. Neglect and several fires destroyed the entire fort by 1866.
