Postcard of Mount St. Helens sometime after the 1980 eruption. | Mt. St. Helens, following violent eruption activities, still shows some volcanic activity. The mountain lost approx. 1300 ft. of its summit on May 18, 1980 eruption. 156 square miles of surrounding wilderness-like setting was wrecked, and buried in up to 100 feet of ash and debris. This view looks south into the devastated mountain.
