Description:
A large group of children standing in front of Priest River's first school building with an American flag draped behind them.
Original Description:
Priest River's first school was a log building probably located near the confluence of the Priest and the Pend Oreille on the Priest's east bank. Rudolph Torelle, the first teacher, standing with his head in front of the last two stripes on the flag. Caroline Van Dorn is standing in front of Torelle, in the wide white collar. Nora and Agnes Murray are on her left. Vernon Stewart is the curly haired, blonde boy on the left end of the 2nd row, Glenn Stewart is on the right end. Leila Porter is the blonde who is number 3 in the first row, and Mandy Caprai (Long) is the dark haired girl standing at the right end. The older males were mostly Italian immigrants in school to learn English.
