Newspaper article from the August 1, 1974 Sandpoint Idaho News-Bulletin. Text reads: "BILL WHETSLER, (left), Priest River log drive foreman for Diamond Match Co. for 18 years, from 1931 until 1949 when the drives were discontinued, guides the bateau during one of the drives which began in 1901 on Priest River. Logs were floated down the creeks into Priest Lake and then down Priest River into Pend Oreille River where they were sorted into holding pens and taken to the mills at Dover and Laclede. Mr. Whetsler, who began working in the woods when he was 15 years old, rode in the same bateau in last week's Fourth of July Parade with Mrs. Whetsler and Miss Priest River and her two princesses—Bonner County Historical Society photo."
