After 10 o’clock at night after everyone went to bed, representative Takeoka reported that the Imperial Japanese navy admiral and ambassador Kichisaburo Nomura sent a message to the Japanese internees through the representative of Spain (F. de Amat, Consul General of Spain in San Francisco) as follows.
Mayor Y. Taoka Fort Missoula, Montana
Dear Mr. Taoka, By the kind authorization of the supervisor of Fort Missoula, I am sending to you and your companions the following message from Ambassador Nomura:
“My mind is constantly filled with anxious thoughts of your health and welfare. Please be assured every possible effort being made to increase your comforts and conveniences and also to improve your interests as of the future. Sincerely wish you high spirit and good health.”
Begging as acknowledgement of the receipt of this message, and with best wishes to you and your companions. I remain.
