It is the Emperor’s birthday today. It is sorrowful and also meaningful that hundreds of fellow Japanese are celebrating this birthday in the enemy county tens of thousands miles away in the detention with rifles watching us. I heard people singing the national anthem together and making banzai calls in the corner of the facility, and the sound was traveling across the beautiful blue sky in the early morning.

That was a birthday celebration by the Panama group. About half an hour later, I hear another banzai call clearly echoing in the early morning sky. That was likely by the Hawaii group. After breakfast, our group got together in the mess hall in our area, quietly gave three banzai cheers with Mr. Mukodo from California serving as our emcee and made simple celebratory comments. Later, about 20 people lined up facing east outside the tent, sang the national anthem and gave three cheers. Watching them brought tears to our eyes.
We got the last shot in the afternoon. It was conducted by a Japanese doctor as it was last time, and the assistant was also Japanese. Fortunately, I did not get any reactions this time, and it is strange that I did not have almost any pain. Everyone was worried about me, but it is lucky that they did not have to.
