It has been the full month since we left Missoula. Everyone is finally getting used to the meaningless and boring life here, and our complaints and worries are fading away while we are accepting it as our fate.
A messenger came around noon and told me that Dr. Sekiyama would like to see me at the hospital immediately. When I went there, I was told they would like me to eat at the mess hall for the Hawaii region as they decided to serve all the patients there. That is fine. I don’t want to eat separately from my friends, but it needs to be this way due to the cooking staff schedule.

This Dr. Sekiyama is very arrogant, and I didn’t like it. There was another person, probably from Panama, who was told to come as I did, and the doctor was telling him that he needs to do as the doctor tells him to do as the other doctors do not have any right to instruct the patients. He is such a despicable man to show off his authority over nothing. He is one of many doctors, and it is entertaining to watch his childish joy over mess hall assignments.
The fellow assigned to the mess hall is a funny character. He is kind and takes good care of others. The way he talks is interesting, and it is as if he was feeding about ten sick people for free all by himself. It is not intentional, and he appears to enjoy taking care of people and is rather likable. I feel particularly lonely when I am exposed to a lot of strangers, but I just have to live with it for a while.
I gave two jars of fukujinzuke pickles to a young man from Panama in the evening, and he was very glad, happily accepted them and asked my name. He looked so pleased that it made me feel happy.
