J Section folks from Panama and Hawaii held an exhibition of their craft items. A number of crafts and paintings were there from our K Section as well, but they are confident enough to host such an event, and their work is almost professional.

The most impressive piece for me is a pine needle sash made by Mr. Takashi Otsuka. It is delicately woven with pine needles and such beautiful memorabilia. I also saw sculptures, fans, geta clogs and others, and I could see how much work was poured into those pieces. A naked woman statue displayed as a gift for the administration was rather sarcastic, but the creator was quite serious. The collection also included Japanese chess and mahjong pieces. I wanted a simple rectangular curved wood tray that I saw. I asked Mr. Takao to negotiate with the creator to give one to me, but I don’t know if he will.
I received a letter written in Japanese from Mrs. Kiso. dated May 12th. It was written after the evacuation [1].
I saw a newspaper article about the departure of a Japanese and U.S. exchange boat from the exchange location in South Africa. It is assumed that the U.S. boat is coming back around August 10th.
Mr. Tanbara received a letter from his family that told him more and more people in the Portland assembly center are wanting to go back to Japan.
