July 25 (Saturday)

I am suffering from gas and digestive problems for unknown reasons. I did not eat anything after breakfast today.

We were told that, since Mr. Watanuki has been hospitalized, Mr. Horagami agreed to take over his position. It is an assisting position under Mr. Miyagawa, but I do not think it is a good idea for him to assume a leadership role. It might work if the leader were more assertive. However, Mr. Miyagawa is a nice person but lacks the determination to face the authorities directly and negotiate on behalf of his fellow internees, even when doing so would not benefit him personally. People will find it simply pathetic to assist such a leader.
