Fierce arguments over the labor outside of the fence are still carried on. However, the issue will be resolved if those who initially rejected the request refuse to render such labor. I heard a forced labor case was cancelled in the McCoy camp after negotiations against the policy based on the Geneva Conventions.
Mr. Ishizuka said that a total of 1,400 Japanese American soldiers recently arrived at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, and two of them were working on translation or document censorship. The Japanese American soldiers avoided the Japanese internees and did not talk to them at all, except for one who was friendly toward them. Even that person was not able to openly talk to them though.
Following the suggestion made by Mr. Kimura, we have made a decision to create request forms to sign and submit to the authorities for the parents with children serving in the U.S. military to send the families back to Japan. It is also considered to submit similar requests for the other internees and the families. I believe it works us a favor to have such an urge placed on the government from outside.
