MS Grispholm, a Swedish boat chartered by the U.S. and scheduled to run as the second exchange boat, is docked and standing by with items (via U.S. Red Cross) to be sent to U.S. citizens detailed in Japan. The other day, Mr. Tsuboi brought us news this morning that the boat traveled downstream on Hudson River and is expected to depart in the near future. We were told that some of the fellow citizens in the New York area have already received a notice for departure. If this is true, I would imagine that the boat is to depart in mid February and firmly believe that I have a good chance to go back to Japan on this second boat. The Tsuboi news reported that the list of passengers to return to Japan will be issued the day after tomorrow, but I am pretty doubtful about it.
We held a haiku poetry gathering at 6 p.m. It is not warm enough in the gathering space for and aggravates my digestive system issues, so I excused myself. Poetry composed by the members is greatly improving, but there is still some room for sincere expression with the 17-syllable short form.
