Dr. Tanaka visited me last night to discuss the effort made by others to expel him. He told me that he met with Mr. Momii with Mr. Ishibashi, Mr. Nishino and Mr. Yoshitomi joining them at the mess hall yesterday afternoon, and they ended up peacefully shading hands and decided to maintain the current positioning. The Japanese internee doctors got together to fully support Mr. Tanaka against the expelling campaign, and they decided to honor the intention of the doctors against their resolution. Mr. Tanaka could temporarily remain in his position, but he would not be a man to stay for a long time.
Hauta [1] singing lessons have recently started. Chituzen biwa lute classes also started in competition to the Satsuma biwa lute classes. The instructors are not that great, but the majority of the internees have only heard a few songs of this kind on a record player. They never have tried to sing any, and it must be a pleasure to take lessons directly from instructors. It doesn’t matter. Singing is the best tool to change one’s mood, and I would encourage everyone to try it.
