Spring rain was falling to moist dust on the ground from this morning. It stopped in the afternoon, but the planned internee soft ball game was cancelled. We do not have anywhere to go even on Sundays, and the talkative ones in the barracks have been so noisy just like frogs dug out of the nest. It is extremely disturbing. I cannot even read books, but noise bothers me more if I try to go to sleep. Mr. Okazaki get fed up as well and finally ended up getting up, saying,”I don’t know how they can keep talking like that.” I was expecting one quiet day of the week, but it was ruined today.
Eight new internees were detained in the H Area today. The majority of them are our fellow citizens from Hong Kong or the mid mountain area, and I heard some of them were sent from the Missoula camp. I also heard some of them were released into a center once and sent back.
Eight Japanese prisoners of war started to have meals in the K-1 Area mess hall starting lunch today. Of course, they are to be sitting at a separate table from us, and the serving time for them will be slightly earlier than ours or a bit later. Conversation with us is strictly prohibited, and three guards are watching them. It is reported that all of them are officers, and another 10 prisoners were added to the 16 who were taken to tour the other day. Those who come to our mess hall are all new, and among them is an office with gray hair seemingly over 60, and he seems to be the captain of the troop.

He must be at the general level judging from his age, but I imagine he could also be a retired officer returning to serve at the war, or also could be the captain of the boat. They are all very tall, and the jacket distributed to them with big white letters “PW” (Prisoner of War) are very eye-catching. Mr. Miyagakwa is with them as an interpreter, but I heard they are able to freely speak English.
