According to what I heard directly from interpreter Miyagawa, the elderly person with gray hair is a special duty major, and all of them are officers. The nine new internees sent to the H Area yesterday were arrested in different locations except for one from the Missoula camp. I heard on among them applied to return to Japan while employed at a restaurant, investigated twice after that and ended up being detained after that.
M. Kasai from Spokane was allowed to go home to conduct a funeral for his elder brother with two guards accompanying him and came back to the camp last night. He told us as a souvenir from outside that Japanese Americans and issei people remaining there were extremely demoralized, and there is nothing he could think of doing to fix it.
Today is Washington Day, and it is an American legal holiday. It is also our anniversary day for the Mikado Club we appointed ourselves in Horagatake in Portland way back.
