Caption reads: 'J. W. Brigham and wife. He is the only living founder of the University of Idaho. She was among the first students to enroll. 1939--now deceased--Mr. Brigham. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brigham, Genesee. Mr. Brigham introduced and pushed through to passage the bill creating the University in last territorial legislature in January, 1889. He then was youngest man in the 'council or senate' in the last territorial legislature, a kid of 32 years. Now 81, still active. He homesteaded the 320-acre farm on which he now lives in 1879. Then were only eight settlers living between Lewiston and Moscow. Has had five children attend university, youngest sophomore in engineering, now enrolled.' Portrait.
