I went to see a Satsuma biwa lute concert held at the Recreation Hall in the H Area at 6 p.m. All the players are beginners who have been participating for about one or two months, and Mr. Matsuura, Mr. Tanbara, Mr. Kondo and Mr. Takahashi from Portland are among them. Four out of the nine players are from our group. They are all inexperienced, but I am glad that they did not make any big mistakes and ended their performance. Their instructor is Mr. Shohei Arai, and I used to know him in Seattle. His performance of the biwa lute is extremely poor, and he is far away from being an instructor. It is interesting to see he can still be a teacher when we are internees.
This is my first occasion to step out of the K Area since I was transferred here, except for the memorial service for Edler Ueda held last month. Moreover, this is the first time to attend a speech or performance and to stay until it ends before I go back since I was sent to Missoula. To be honest, I wanted to leave as I started to have a stomach ache probably because it was chilly, but I stayed until the end as Mr. Wataru Takahashi from our group was the last player to perform. I was planning to also visit Mr. Asaba, Mr. nakamura, and Mr. Nishi in the area but ended up going back with Mr. Usuda for the reason mentioned above.
