Where do I start?


The University of Idaho Library has a large collection of digital and print newspapers to use. Below are links and information on our many resources.

To find a specific newspaper:

Follow these steps to locate print or electronic articles in specific newspapers through the UI Library website:

Begin by searching the Library Catalog:

  • Type the newspaper title in the catalog search bar.
  • In search results,limit Resource Type to Journals.
  • Then, limit Genre Type to Newspapers.

If the newspaper title doesn't appear in your search results:

Current Newspapers in Print

Current issues of local, state and national newspapers are available in print on the 2nd floor of the UI Library. Most back issues are on microfilm and can be viewed on one of the microfilm readers, also located on the 2nd floor. 

Please ask for assistance at the Reference Desk on 1st floor if you are unable to locate a newspaper.

  • Idaho and local newspapers available in print.
  • National Newspapers in Print:
    New York Times -
    received daily, same day as publication
    Wall Street Journal -
    received daily, same day as publication
    Spokesman-Review (Spokane, WA) -
    received daily, same day as publication
  • International Newspapers in Print:
    Epoch Times (Da ji yuan shi bao) China -
    received weekly, delivered 3-5 days after publication)
    People's Daily (Ren min ri bao) Beijing, China -
    received daily, 3-5 days after publication

In addition, the ASUI Readership Program at the University of Idaho provides free copies of the daily New York Times in the Idaho Commons. Free copies of the daily Spokesman Review, and USA Today are available in the Student Union Building.

If you are looking for full access to current news articles in national newspapers, the Wall Street Journal is available electronically to UI affiliates. If you are off-campus, you will be asked to log in with your NetID and password.

Using Microfilm

Older issues of the library's print newspapers are avaialbe on mircofilm, located on the 2nd floor of the library.

Idaho and local newspapers available on microfilm

Newspapers are listed alphabetically by city, followed by the county. Each entry lists:

  • All newspapers published in that city
  • Dates of publication
  • Former names

Viewing Microfilm

Newspapers on microfilm and microfilm viewer/scanners are located on the 2nd floor of the library. You can print copies of articles for 10 cents per page or can scan and save the article to your thumb drive. (Bring your own or purchase one for $6.89 at the circulation desk on 1st floor.)
